Institute of Social Work started its work with vocational training for slum women like cane and bamboo work, artistic leather work, embroidery and tailoring work, food processing.
ISW implemented economic empowerment programme for fisherman families at Akra (near Budge Budge).
At Barasat (North 24 Prgs.) started Homeopathic Dispensary for rural people with their demands.
A weaving training centre for rural women who are picking up grass from land as a daily basis at Baruipur (Andharia village) and Jaynagar (Banerjee para) started for economic empowerment of rural women.
With the initial experience ISW decided to take programme on Women Empowerment at rural areas different districts of West Bengal by encouraging political knowledge and political participation for women through workshops and training.
